 Dr  Bonny Khalwale is the current senator of Kakamega County. He defeated Dr. Brian Lishenga, his competitor to become the senator. Dr. Khalwale was the first senator of Kakamega County. He lost in the gubernatorial race of 2017 to H.E retired governor Oparanya. During that time, Cleophas Malala emerged the winner and became the second senator of Kakamega county. Kakamega county is headed by Hon Fernandes Barasa, who is the governor. Barasa is the second elected governor of Kakamega, after Dr. Wycliffe Oparanya . He defeated his main competitor Cleophas Malala , and was announced as the second governor.  Ayub Savula  is the deputy governor. Barasa was born and raised in Khabondi village near Malaha, in Mumias East. He later migrated to Harambee in Matungu, where he is living until now. Educational Background Governor Barasa attended Khaunga Primary and Naitiri Secondary where he then proceeded to pursue a bachelors degree in Commerce(BCom) in Kenyatta University. Thereafter, he did master of business administration(MBA). He earned both his bachelors and masters degree in Kenyatta University. He is currently pursuing his PhD at the University of Nairobi.
